Rx - Create Screen

The first screen you see when you hit the RX button is the Rx-Create Screen. This is the screen that all users will access when writing a prescription. The other five screens are used only for editing the Rx data.

UPPER HALF OF SCREEN

The Create screen is the first screen you see when starting Rx-Writer. When you open this screen in User Mode (not Manager Mode), you see a top row of five white fields for data entry. Only the data appearing in these white boxes will print on the prescription form.

If you entered Rx-Writer from the Title screen and you made no drug title selection, these fields will be blank. If, however, you had selected a drug title on the Title Screen, then clicked the Rx button, the drug corresponding to the title chosen will appear in the white boxes.

Drug Field

The white box shows the selected drug name. The first few letters typed here (must start in the first column on the first line of this box) will initiate a search in the box below. This lower box is a list of all available drugs in Rx-Writer. If you want to create a prescription for a drug not listed, you can do that too by simply typing the name and entering the data for the other fields.

Once a drug is selected in this upper box, hitting {Enter} will use all data appearing in the adjacent white boxes to create the prescription and ADD this to the Print List.

If you want to modify any of the other fields, use the {Tab} key to change to the next field.

Dose Field

The upper box contains the default dose for the selected drug. You can type over any data that appears. The lower Dose box lists the common dose forms for this drug.

The dose at the top of the list will appear as the default setting in the upper box. The position of these items can be adjusted from Manager Mode (see Edit Dose). Use the mouse to select any dose listed to make it appear in the upper box.

Sig Field

The upper box contains the default Sig for the selected drug. You can type over any data that appears there. The lower Sig box lists the common Sigs used for this drug.

The Sig at the top of this list will appear as the default setting in the upper box. The position of these items can be adjusted from Manager Mode (see below). Use the mouse to select any Sig listed and it will appear in the upper box.

Dur Field

The upper box contains the default Duration for the selected drug. You can type over any data that appears there. The lower Dur box lists the common durations used for this drug. Some drugs will not have a duration entry if they are used PRN or continuously.

The Sig at the top of this list will appear as the default setting in the upper box. The position of these items can be adjusted from Manager Mode (see below). Use the mouse to select any duration listed and it will appear in the upper box.

Disp Field

The upper box contains the default amount to be dispensed for the selected drug. You can type over any data that appears there. The lower Disp box lists the common amounts used for this drug

The Disp entry at the top of this list will appear as the default setting in the upper box. The position of these items can be adjusted from Manager Mode (see below). Use the mouse to select any Disp amount listed and it will appear in the upper box.

LOWER HALF OF SCREEN

Refill

The default entry is "None". You may type in any number here.

Checkboxes

When a drug is selected in the Drug box, you may check any of these boxes off or on. The default setting is determined from File | Settings | Rx tab in Manager Mode.

Include Drug Instruction: This feature will automatically add the associated Drug Instruction document to the Print List.

Do Not Substitute: This phrase will appear on the prescription in the affirmative or negative, as indicated here.

Rx Has Own Page: There may be times when you want to write a script for more than one drug, and one of these drugs needs to go on its own page because you are asking patient not to fill it unless some condition occurs.

Added To Print List

This box displays the drugs that have been added to the Print List as an RX.

This is accomplished by selecting a drug, then hitting the Add to Print List button, which then prepares you for selecting another drug. Or, hit the OK button which adds the current drug then returns to the Title Screen.

USING MANAGER MODE

In order to edit any item in the lower boxes (Drug, Dose, Sig, Dur, Disp), you must be in Manager Mode. This is turned on from the Title Screen, Setup Menu. With Manager Mode ON, the Create-Rx screen shows the Edit button under each of the data boxes.

NOTE: The Rx-Writer feature is not available in the Lite version of Exit-Writer.
