Misc.: Troubleshooting Tips

The following is a list of some problems that may occur and their solution. If you are experiencing a problem that you cannot solve by referring to online Help or your User Manual, call Technical Support (see below).

WINDOWS NT

When using the Windows NT operating system, you will be unable to see the cursor when it is on any of the blue fields of the Custom Screen. This represents a conflict between the language that the Exit-Writer program was written in with Windows NT. There is no scheduled fix for this unless we get more Windows NT users. If you are using Windows NT, please let us know that you are experiencing this problem.

If you are unable to see the Windows Start Button on your screen display, hold down the {Ctrl} key and press the {Esc} key. This opens the Start Menu. From here you can select Programs and locate the Exit-Writer program group for starting the software.

MEMORY-RELATED PROBLEMS

There are certain functions of Exit-Writer that are sensitive to the amount of memory available. When available memory is reduced because other programs are running, you may experience certain errors, such as:

To determine if your problem is related to memory limitations: turn on System Resources. From the Title Screen select View | System Resources. Resources will display at the bottom right corner of the program window. GDI, USER or SYS Resources below 50% can cause a problem.

This problem may be corrected by turning off other applications (see the list of applications loaded with the Ctrl-Alt-Del keys. If this does not help, restarting the computer might release more memory.

BLACK or BLANK PRINTOUTS

This intermittent problem is due to an older version of the HP LaserJet4plus print driver.

Upload newest print driver from the HP web site, or change to HP3 driver from windows listing.

UNEXPECTED SESSION TERMINATION

"Your session has been terminated by User xxxxx.

Your work will be saved and you will exit."

If you think this is happening in error, check the File Menu | Settings to verify that there are not identical User names at different workstations.
