Misc.: Summary Page Feature

All users will want some record of what instructions were given to each patient at the time of discharge from their medical facility. This will usually be in the form of a duplicate copy of the document set. However, some users may want to avoid handling and filing the extra copies and prefer to use the Summary Page Feature. With this feature enabled, a one-page summary is printed at the end of the document set. This Summary Page includes the names of all titles printed and any data entered on the Custom Screen (Attending MD, Patient Name, MR #, Referral MD, Special Advice)

SIGNATURE LINES:

When the Summary Page is printed it will have signature lines at the bottom for the patient to acknowledge receipt of the information indicated. Therefore, you can turn off the signature lines from the instruction document itself.

The Summary Page and Signature Lines are both turned on from the "File Menu: Settings: Printing tab" within Manager Mode.

This feature is not available in the Lite version of Exit-Writer.

PROS & CONS of USING THE SUMMARY PAGE FEATURE.

While using a one page summary to keep in the patient's chart is convenient, it is not the same as having an exact copy of all information provided -- word-for-word. There may come a time when it is necessary for you to produce this exact copy of information, rather than a summary of it. This can be done, by looking up the titles of each document given to the patient, and printing them again. This procedure works fine as long as you have not updated or changed any of the instruction documents since the patient received his discharge advice.

Parker Hill Associates updates the instruction set annually and many small changes and some large changes are made to a significant number of existing instruction documents at that time. Therefore, if you are going to use the Summary Page feature, you must make archival backups of the instruction set before each update from Parker Hill Associates, and before doing any editing of the instruction set yourself.

MAKING ARCHIVAL BACKUPS OF THE INSTRUCTION DATA

  1. Go to the File Menu on the Title Screen. Select Save Program Data. This will save the Original and User Title Lists. These files will be sent to the EWWIN\Save subdirectory. Any instructions that you modified or created will be stored in the EWWIN\Save\User\User_tit subdirectory.

  2. The entire Save subdirectory should be copied off the hard drive and archived in a safe place.

  3. In order to save the current copy of the instruction files that we provided you, go to the Ewwin\Instrux directory and make a copy of all files there.

RESTORING THE ARCHIVED INSTRUCTION DATA

  1. Install a temporary copy of Exit-Writer into another directory. You may call it "EWWIN-archive". Copy the files from your archive disk as follows, overwriting files of the same name in the Ewwin-Archive directory:

  2. Develist.mdb and User.mdb should be copied to the Ewwin-Archive\Data subdirectory.

  3. The entire User subdirectory should be copied into the Ewwin-Archive directory.

  4. All files in the Instrux directory should be copied to the Ewwin-Archive\Instrux subdirectory.

Now start the Ewwin-Archive program and Exit-Writer will be in the same state as the day you backed it up.

Do not try to run Ewwin-Archive and Ewwin at the same time. This will result in a license conflict if the number of users running exceeds the number of users licensed.
