The Referral List is a list of all your referral sources. This typically
would include your medical staff and any clinics or agencies that you may refer
patients to.
List Search
The Referral List can be opened to search for a Referral. This is done by
double left-clicking on the Referral field or using the Setup Menu on the Custom
or Title Screen. Once the list is open, you may search by last name, first name,
specialty or city. This can be a very useful feature for finding all
physicians within a given specialty or location.
To search, left-click on the button above the column that you wish to search.
Then, type in the first few letters of the search. Use the arrow keys or
mouse to refine the selection.
Adding Referral Names
When setting up your program for the first time, you will want to add Referral
names to the Referral List. This can be done one at a time, or all names can
be imported at once.
MANUAL ENTRY
Referral names can be entered in one of two ways with Manager Mode turned on.
Select the "Setup Menu: Referral List"; or double left-click on the Referral
field from the Custom Screen. Once the list is open, left-click on the Add
button to add a new name.
USING THE REFERRAL IMPORT FEATURE
Most users will want to enter their entire medical staff into the Referral
List. This process can be automated with the Referral Import Feature.
"IMPORT.EXE" is a separate utility program that is provided with Exit-Writer. It is
found within the EWWIN directory. This requires that you have created an output
file from your medical staff database that follows the fixed-field length format
below:
Field Name Field Length Column Position
Last Name (30) 1-30
First Name (14) 31-44
Title (8) 45-52
Specialty (18) 53-70
Street (28) 71-98
City (15) 99-113
Phone (14) 114-127
Fax (14) 128-141
The import.exe program must be in the EWWIN dir before starting. You can
launch it with the Start | Run command. When you start it, it looks for the file to
import. The default path is [current drive]:\[current
directory]\Import\Refer.txt
Upon starting, the first imported record is displayed so you can verify that
the file format was done correctly and things line up. If this record looks
jumbled, fields are out of order or the columns for each field is not set correctly.
If you do not specify, "Delete All", this utility will add the imported names
to what is already in the Referral database. If names are already in the
Referral database, this could result in duplicate entries. Therefore, this procedure
is only for use the first time you set up Exit-Writer and not as a method for
updating your Referral List with changes to the medical staff database.
If you select "Delete All", the names in the Referral database will be deleted
before the import procedure occurs.
If you try to import a second time to reflect changes in the medical staff,
you will end up with many duplicate names.
From the "Setup Menu: Referral List"; or by double left-clicking on the
Referral field from the Custom Screen:
Select the name to modify and left-click on the Edit button.
Similarly, names can be deleted with the Delete button.
